Rooted in Experience
GardenChoice™ began in 2015 when Jim Eason, Ko Klaver, Arjen Vriend, and Rick Grazzini connected over coffee at the California Spring Trials in 2016. Each recognized business needs that the others could fulfill, with a shared goal of collaborating more effectively to enhance the products and services offered to their customers.
Here’s a look at how the alliance came together:
▪ Rick Grazzini sought direct collaboration with a field-scale perennial grower, and Pioneer Gardens could fill that role.
▪ Jim Eason needed access to proprietary plant genetics to differentiate its offerings and provide customers with unique products.
▪ GardenGenetics could supply innovative genetics, while Pioneer Gardens could produce liners and bare-root plants.
▪ Pioneer Gardens wanted access to proprietary perennial genetics, which GardenGenetics was already developing in herbaceous perennials.
▪ Ko Klaver and his team of product specialists searched for new products—particularly herbaceous perennials—that they could promote and sell to box store growers.
After years of coordinating logistics and aligning goals, GardenChoice™ was born—designed to serve every level of the horticultural marketplace.During the summer of 2025, Bloomin’ Easy Plants joined the effort. With strong synergies already in place and ongoing collaborative research and development on new plant genetics, this partnership was a natural fit—bringing full alignment in promoting and marketing these innovations to the North American horticulture market.
Where We Are Today
GardenChoice™ has introduced several exciting new plants to the market and maintains a strong pipeline of selections currently being trialed for future releases.
Coming soon, we’ll be offering additional colors for Rudbeckia MiniBeckia™ and Lagerstroemia GreatMyrtle™, two of our most notable introductions. Alongside these color expansions, we will also feature the recently introduced and highly unique GardenFest Coleus annual line.
